Markings of the US Navy
Markings Seen On Escort Carriers A - M
This part shows the evolution of markings seen on individual carriers (excluding cases in which only plain numbers were carried). As can bee seen in quite a few cases there wasn't just one marking seen on a certain carrier. |
Actual photos were used to make the following paintings as accurate as possible. |
Profiles copyright Wilfried Eck and Srecko Bradic. |
Captions as follows: Type of aircraft, unit resp. carrier (before or after standardization), time of use (day/month/year). |
Rembember: Before June 2nd 1945 aircraft markings were definitely not carrier markings but inventions of individual squadrons instead. |
"AG" = Air Group, "VC" = Composite Squadron, "MCVG" = Marine Carrier Air Group |

* Excellent, very recommendable website for CVE-107 Gilbert Islands and markings of MCVG-2 (Corsairs, Hellcats, Avengers) - thanks a lot from my side: http://www.adamsplanes.com/
